Still Dancing
Short Film (2020)
Director’s Statement
“‘Still Dancing’ challenges the stereotypical representation of elderly people on-screen, therefore in this dance documentary I wanted to shine a light on a sector of society not often seen and give older women, not only a voice but a platform to demonstrate their passion and life long commitment to dance.
In 2020, the film was shown at the Edinburgh International Screen Dance Festival, the Women over Fifty Film Festival, Brighton and KnowBox Dance Film Festival, shown in both Dallas, Texas, and Seoul, South Korea.
Still Dancing continues to shown across the world, so (for now) we can only bring you the trailer.”
Film Description
The film tells the story of how three women from Scotland first fell in love with dance as a child and continue to demonstrate their passion for the art form in their elder years.
'Still Dancing' indulges in Maria's passion for dance and interweaves elements of social commentary with the poetic art of screen-dance.
‘Still Dancing’ continues to be shown in dance documentary festivals.
“Still Dancing provides a beautiful and sensorially engaging portrayal of ageing and dancing. Whilst media usually depicts people through frailty and ostracisation, Maria’s film celebrates the ageing body as an agent for physical prowess, social interaction and general joie de vivre.”
